Learn How to Get Started as a Freelance Writer

I'm Denene, a professional freelance writer for more than six years. I created this website to give you the tools you need to start your own business as a freelance writer.

I've traveled the road you're on now, a beginner with no writing portfolio. But through hard work I have now been published in more than 35 publications and websites ranging from industry trade magazines such as Minority Nurse, to major websites like Yahoo!, and newstand magazines like Heart & Soul.

I have earned great money freelancing -- both as a part-time writer on nights and weekends, and as a full-time writer. There are great paying publications and websites out there -- if you know how to find them and land assignments. Freelance Write Now will show you how.

The menu on your left will walk you through each stage of getting started as a freelance writer. If you're a beginner, start at the top of the navigation panel and work your way down. If you have some experience and just need some advice in certain areas, feel free to jump around to topics that interest you.

Freelance writing for magazines and websites can be a very lucrative side business or full-time career. Many writers start off part-time (like me) while working full-time "day jobs" or parenting. In fact, freelance writing offers unparalleled flexibility. You can write your articles at one in the afternoon, or one in the morning (as long as you meet your deadline, your editor doesn't care!).

If you have a way with words, freelance writing is a great way to use your skills in writing to earn extra money, see your name in print, and live your dreams of being a published writer.

Many people dream of writing a book someday. In fact, I once heard a statistic that something like 80 or 90 percent of people say they want to write a book one day. Writing articles is a great start to eventually writing a book. It teaches you vital skills, offers an opportunity to network, and it builds your confidence as a writer. While publishing books is outside the scope of this website, just note that many writers who publish books started out writing magazine and/or newspaper articles.
